    5083 alloy

5083 is a non-heat treatable aluminium alloy, where magnesium is the primary alloying element. Magnesium significantly increases strength while maintaining corrosion resistance, which makes 5083 stand out among non-heat treatable alloys. It's best known for its performance in marine environments. Strength comes from strain hardening rather than heat treatment, and the alloy also performs well at low temperatures, which opens it up to cryogenic applications. While 5083 is most commonly found in plate and sheet form, it does appear in certain extrusion applications where its specific combination of strength, weldability and corrosion resistance is the deciding factor.
