As we aim to create industries that matter, we also aim to contribute to creating thriving, inclusive and fair societies. We will do this by focusing our efforts on investing in education, supporting a just transition and responsible sourcing through our supply chain.

Respecting and promoting human rights, collaboration and transparency continue to be the fundament for how we will work toward our social ambition.

We act on our ambition by supporting a just transition to the low-carbon economy. Our Just Transition Framework sets out our main priorities in contributing to a transition that leaves no one behind, in line with the UN’s 2030 Agenda:

Respecting and promoting human rights

Respecting and promoting human rights is at the heart of Hydro’s social responsibility and the foundation of all our initiatives, related to our own business, the communities where we operate and our value chain. Human rights due diligence is the process through which we identify and manage human rights impacts.

Investing in education and providing decent jobs

The transition to the future low-carbon economy will require new skills. We support upskilling and reskilling for future jobs, training and skills development programs directly and via partners. As a global company, an important part of our social responsibility agenda is also to provide decent jobs in our business and to promote this in our value chain.

Supporting positive local development

Hydro can only succeed as a company when the communities around us also succeed. We work to support and strengthen the communities where we operate. We do so by conducting our own business in a responsible way, supporting local business development and entrepreneurship, contributing to addressing local challenges and engaging in relevant partnerships.

Responsible value chain

Our commitment to contribute to a just transition in our supply chain is dependent on transparency and traceability. We work to create the infrastructure for upstream and downstream transparency on key sustainability data.
