Each of Hydro’s three extrusion plants in Brazil have achieved certification from the Aluminum Stewardship Initiative (ASI) according to ASI’s Performance Standard. The organization evaluates several criteria that show that sustainability and human rights principles are increasingly incorporated into supply chains.

The extrusion plants in Brazil certified by ASI are located in Itu (SP), Tubarão (SC) and Utinga (SP). In total, the factories employ around 900 people.

Teamwork and dedication

“This achievement was only possible due a lot of collaboration among our departments and outstanding dedication of many people across the organization. Considering that our plant in Argentina also was just certified, now all our plants in South America have earned the distinction of Performance Standard Certification,” says Sergio L. Vendrasco, vice president responsible for Hydro’s Precision Tubing operations in South America.

Combined, the Brazilian sites manufacture more than 80,000 tons of aluminium profiles annually for industrial customers as well as customers in the building and construction market. The plant in Itu also develops and delivers heat transfer solutions to HVAC and automotive customers.

Strong support for customers

“I’d like to congratulate each of our teams in Brazil, because doing business the right way is what Hydro is all about,” says executive vice president Paul Warton, who leads Hydro’s Extrusions business area.

The newly certified Brazilian plants are all part of Hydro Extrusions. From before, both Hydro’s bauxite and alumina operations in Paragominas and Alunorte and the primary aluminium plant Albras has been ASI certified.

Hydro Extrusions is the largest business area in Hydro with 21,000 employees in 40 countries. It delivers tailored aluminium components and solutions to all industries, from automotive and mass transportation to building and construction, electronics, offshore and maritime. The business area serves more than 30,000 customers across the world.
