“We are happy to further extend our ability to deliver certified aluminium produced with high standards, responsibly and sustainably,” says the Head of Hydro’s Primary Metal business area, Eivind Kallevik.

The Primary Metal Umbrella Certificate already certifies Sunndal, Årdal, Høyanger, Karmøy (Norway) and remelter Clervaux (Luxembourg) to ASI Performance Standard and ASI Chain of Custody (CoC) Standard.

With the extension of the Primary Metal umbrella certificate, Hydro extends its certified operations to 59 production sites and has certified facilities all along the value chain from mining operations in Paragominas, Brazil, to building systems plants such as Bellenberg and Miranda in Europe.

The ASI Certification program is the only comprehensive voluntary sustainability standard initiative for the aluminium value chain. The ASI Performance Standard defines environmental, social and governance principles and criteria, with the aim to address sustainability issues in the aluminium value chain.

The independent, third-party audits of the Primary Metal operations were carried out by DNV GL. The ASI Chain of Custody Standard complements the ASI Performance Standard and sets out requirements for the creation of a Chain of Custody, enabling deliveries of ASI-certified aluminium.

“Primary Metal is now continuing the work to certify all sites according to the ASI Chain of Custody Standard and also extend the scope to include joint-venture sites,” says Kallevik.
