Promoting actions that make a positive difference and contribute to improving the quality of life in the regions where Hydro operates is integrated with our values, purpose and business strategy.

In addition, our employees recognize their role in building a better society. The "Volunteers in Action" program brings together people from all units in Pará state and Rio de Janeiro, in Brazil, committed to donating part of their time to support actions in the communities surrounding our businesses.

This month, in celebration of International Volunteer Day (IVD), marked on December 5, the program held dozens of activities that brought volunteers and communities in Pará and Rio de Janeiro together, benefiting nearly 1,000 people.

Check out the video below on the programs held December 7 in Belém, Barcarena and Paragominas, in Pará:

"We come to share knowledge and give back with a heart full of tenderness," says Lilian Santos, a volunteer from our mine in Paragominas, who says the events highlight Hydro's values of Care, Courage and Collaboration.

"It is Care with our community, our nature, the people that surround our place. It is to have the Courage to leave our comfort zone to give to each other. And Collaboration, to show the best of us, show that we can make a difference in each other's lives," says Dominique Silva, a member of the volunteer committee of the Alunorte alumina refinery.

Essential Partnership

One of the institutions benefitting from the actions was the Paragominas Municipal Union of Residents Associations (UMAMP). Agata Silva, NGO representative, highlights the importance of the partnership with Hydro:

“We do a fundamental job for the families of the communities. The partnership with Hydro volunteers came to add and further strengthen the actions carried out in the municipality of Paragominas," she says.

According to Fadwa Andrade, senior manager of Social Responsibility at Hydro, in December, when we celebrate Volunteer Day: “We are prepared for a great celebration, with new challenges and been called to continue on the volunteer journey. Our intention is to exchange views and reflect on personal values, highlighting the importance of individual skills and the strength of the group to achieve the results of the projects supported,” she said.

Mobilization

The activities were promoted in nine public institutions and spaces, ranging from playful activities to environmental education. At the Hydro office in Rio de Janeiro, the volunteers revitalized the library and vegetable garden of an NGO and gave a lecture to young people about professional development.
