The aluminium conference in Doha was hosted by the Qatar University and sponsored by the Qatalum aluminium company and the Norwegian aluminium company Hydro.

The Qatar Aluminium Symposium covered highlights from the complete aluminium value chain, including production, fabrication and the use phase of aluminium. The symposium aimed to demonstrate the key attributes that make aluminium the material for the future, already in use today.

Presenters at the symposium were key experts and top-level management from Qatar University, the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU), Qatar Petroleum, Qatalum and Hydro.

Good cooperation

"Hydro is very pleased with the good cooperation with Qatar University and Qatalum, hosting this aluminium symposium. Aluminium will help the world saving energy in cars, buildings and a number of other applications, said Odd Ivar Biller, who heads Hydro's office at the Qatar Science and Technology Park (QSTP) in addition to being a Qatalum board member.

Dr. Mariam Al-Madeed, director of the Materials Technology Unit (MTU) at Qatar University, introduced the seminar, while Biller chaired the seminar and introduced the speakers.

In connection with the symposium a plant tour to Qatalum, owned 50/50 by Qatar Petroleum and Hydro, was conducted on November 23.
