120 years of shaping what matters

In a world that moves fast, few things endure. In 2025, Hydro celebrates 120 years of shaping industries, communities, and ideas that matter.

Founded in Norway in 1905 with a bold idea to turn waterfalls into fertilizer to feed a starving world, Hydro quickly became more than an industrial venture. It became a driver of national development, community growth, and eventually, global impact. From early hydropower innovations to modern aluminium and renewable energy solutions, we’ve always believed in the power of industry to move society forward.

Over decades, Hydro has transitioned, diversified, and transformed – staying true to the belief that industry must serve society. Today, we operate across the world, delivering low-carbon and recycled aluminium, and renewable energy to create more viable societies.

Honoring the past, inspiring the future

Our 120-year anniversary is a moment to reflect on the values that brought us here, and the ones that will shape what’s next.

To mark this occasion, we’re partnering with creators and communities who, like us, believe in the power of progress and collaboration. Together with The Norwegian Industrial Workers Museum, we invited Norwegian DJ duo KREAM to perform at our historic industrial site at Vemork in Rjukan – where Hydro’s story began. Today, the industrial landscape built in Notodden and Rjukan more than 120 years ago is part of the UNESCO World Heritage List.

Music, like industry, requires rhythm, energy, and collaboration. This partnership brings those elements together in a powerful expression of who we are. By collaborating with a new generation of creators, we connect our heritage with today’s creative pulse – where music, people, and progress converge.

      Building the next 120 years

For more than a century, we’ve shaped industries that matter, but our focus is firmly on the future. We believe tomorrow’s breakthroughs will be driven by the same values that guide us every day: care, courage, and collaboration. These guiding principles keep us moving as we work to provide society with responsibly produced products and solutions, in close partnership with the communities we’re part of.
